It's perfect to bring Kim Ha-sung...Dodgers Oh My, I Can't See Shortstop in Trade Market

July has already begun. With less than a month left before the deadline for trading in the Major League, the name of Kim Ha-sung (29) of the San Diego Padres has yet to be mentioned. 먹튀검증

In July, various U.S. media are listing trade candidates and predicting which team they will go to. Kim Ha-sung, who had been rumored to trade last winter as a "preliminary FA," is now in a different situation.

San Diego is expected to enter the trade market as a buyer, not a seller, as it competes for the second place in the NL West with 46 wins and 42 losses and the second place in the wild card. Even if it is difficult to sign an extension contract after the season, San Diego cannot immediately sell its main shortstop Kim Ha-sung.

Willy Adames, another reserve free agent, also lost his chance to trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, as the team ranks first in the NL Central with 50 wins and 34 losses. There are few notable sales for teams seeking shortstop in the trade market. The Los Angeles Dodgers, which urgently need shortstop, also caught fire.

The Dodgers received up to eight weeks of observation after Mookie Betts, who was its main shortstop, suffered a fracture in his left wrist due to a dune in the middle of last month. Even if it wasn't for the injury, the prevailing view was that it would be difficult to continue using Betts as a shortstop. As a shortstop, he showed weakness in throwing with nine errors, and the concern was that the burden of defense also affected his batting.

While second baseman Gavin Lux was in deep slump, he was expected to transfer resources from outside as he moved his team to second baseman as originally planned. However, as no notable shortstop was in the market, his concern deepened.

Shortstop Bob Bissett of the Toronto Blue Jays is also seen as one of Dodgers' choice. Bissett, who will become a free agent after the end of next year's season, is also considered a good candidate to be in the trade market. The Toronto Blue Jays announced that they would not trade Bissett with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but if his performance declines, no one would know what he is going to do.

However, some analysts say that Bissett is not suitable for the Dodgers. The Athletic appears to be the ideal player for the Dodgers if Toronto decides to trade Bissett. One problem is defense capability at shortstop. Andrew Friedman, Dodgers president of baseball operations, has been obsessed with defense since the Tampa Bay Rays. Manny Machado, who joined the Deadline in 2018, and Freddie Freeman were all strong defense players. However, Bissett does not.

"Rival team evaluators say that Bissett is sometimes careless and in a hurry. He has been on the injured list three times in the past year, which may have contributed to his reduced range of defense. This year, he ranked 23rd in shortstop OAA and 28th in DRS, which was disappointing in key defensive indicators," Bissett said, adding that his poor defense may have affected his batting. Bissett, who had the most hits in the American League for two consecutive years from 2021 to 2022, has posted a career-low batting average of 234 (64 hits in 274 at-bats), four homers, 28 RBIs and OPS.623, in 70 games this year.

The Athletic said, "The central infield between Bissett and Betts will be dynamic, and the Dodgers will certainly jump in if they have the right recruitment cost. However, it is unlikely that Toronto will sell Bissett, which the club can control, at a bargain price until next season. With other quality shortstop recruitment difficulties, the Dodgers may have to figure out how to combine Betts, Miguel Rojas, and Lux."

After Betts' absence, Rojas, who played as the starting shortstop, is playing a surprising role in batting average of 297 (44 hits in 148 times at bat) and hitting with three home runs and an OPS of .790, but its sustainability is low. Dodgers has a great thirst for shortstop, but it is regrettable that Kim Ha-sung did not appear in the market. It is all the more so in that it is for sale by shortstop equipped with defense capability that President Friedman values highly. Even if it were in the trade market, chances are low that San Diego would send Kim Ha-sung to Dodgers, a rival in the same district. However, if it were a promising player that attracts many people, they would not have known what would happen.
